Early on in my medical school days, in those ancient days before the Internet, cell phones, and Lady Gaga, I was drawn to those Norman Rockwell paintings of the small town doctor. As I decided upon a medical specialty, I aspired to be a physician with the wisdom and empathy which those paintings depict. Perhaps an odd sentiment for an INTJ polynerd from MIT with an engineering degree, but I have held on tight to that dream.

As the years have passed, I have come to see more and more that providing the best care to my patients requires not only the most up to date medical scientific knowledge and access to technology, but also a generous helping of that wisdom and empathy. It is that blend of the traditional and contemporary that this practice strives to achieve.

Our Medical Practice

In an era where there is near-irresistable pressure upon primary care physicians to value the health of populations over that of individuals, we are firmly committed to providing personalized care to our patients. Our primary objectives are to personally provide our patients with quality medical care and to advocate for them rather than for a company, product, health insurer, health service provider or accountable care organization. We strive to realize those objectives for all of our patients -- health-conscious or non-compliant. We are open to people of every gender, race, religion, nationality and sexual orientation. We answer to them above all else.

As we are an independently owned and operated community-based solo practice, we are able to provide convenience and individualized service in a nonjudgmental and informal setting. We welcome feedback from our patients and are open to suggestions as to how our practice can better serve them.

We have never, we do not now and we will never in the future, participate in any multi-level marketing schemes or encourage our patients to purchase any product or service purely for our financial gain. Our livelihood derives solely from our efforts on the behalf of our patients.

We are a holistic practice - not in the sense that we recommend aromatherapy and homeopathic medicines when antibiotics or surgery are called for, but in the sense that we strive to know our patients as people. We try to remain familiar with their medical history, their lifestyle, their health habits, their attitudes towards wellness and illness, their hopes, needs and desires. We try to keep them well (sometimes despite themselves) and try to make them well when they are ill. When the medical interventions we can offer can no longer make them well, we assist them with coping with the consequences of their illnesses, and, when the time comes, as it will for all of us, help them die in comfort and with dignity.

That is the true essence of practicing holistic medicine. We feel our role is well expressed in The Oath and Prayer of Maimonides.
